Artemis, a pioneer nonprofit cultural organization, hosts a fall poetry reading. The readers will feature poets that were published in this year’s journal: Thorpe Moeckel, Jeanne Larsen, Amanda Cockrell, Mary Crockett Hill, Judy Ayyildiz, Felicia Mitchell, Barbara Stout, Dave Wiseman, Brad Burkholder, and Curt Alderson. Our poetry editor, Maurice Ferguson will read poems in memorial to the Hollins professor, Eric Trethewey. Trethewey was a highly revered writer for his teaching and writing and was extensively involved in the first publishing venture of Artemis.
Artemis, an award-winning annual arts journal named after the moon goddess, seeks to foster art and literary excellence in the Blue Ridge mountain region, and supports artists and writers by publishing their finest work. Each issue honors a featured writer and artist. The upcoming 2015 journal will feature Beth Macy, acclaimed author of the New York Times bestseller, Factory Man, and our feature artist will be Bill White, painter and retired Hollins art professor. White is this year’s winner of the Kendig Artist Award for his artistic techniques and style, his extensive teaching, and fostering cultural regional activities.
