Enjoy a scenic drive to New Castle for the 33rd Annual Craig County Fall Festival on October 10, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Main Street and some side streets of this quaint little town will be jam-packed with craft and food vendors, along with educational displays. The O. Marshall Reynolds Memorial Antique Car Show will fill Middle Street. Shops on Main Street will be open, with many locally-made crafts and handiwork.
Begin your day with a country breakfast in the Old Brick Hotel dining room. Choose from sausage, country ham, eggs, biscuits, gravy and beverages. After taking in the activities along the streets, come back to the hotel for lunch.....pinto beans and cornbread.
Entertainment will be provided by the New Castle School of Dance and by numerous local musicians playing country, bluegrass, Southern rock, and dance music. Other entertainment will include horse rides and kids activities. A blacksmith and a local potter will be demonstrating their crafts near the Old Brick Hotel.
Much of the activity will center around the Old Brick Hotel which was built in the 1800's. It has been restored and contains antique furniture, clothing and other historical items donated by local families. Nearby are two log cabins complete with furniture, household items and clothing, also from local families. The hotel and the cabins will be open for self-guided tours. The Genealogy Library and the hotel gift shop will also be open all day. Sponsored by the Craig County Historical Society, proceeds from the Festival are used for maintenance of the hotel and cabins, as well as for the preservation of local history.
Many Craig County residents, both present and former, look upon the Fall Festival as a “family reunion”, a time to see and talk with friends and relatives they haven't seen for a while, maybe even for years. For others, this is a great time to start their holiday gift-buying. For most folks, the food booths are the big attraction, with everything from bbq to pumpkin rolls, homemade jams, elephant ears, breads and cakes. Everyone is invited to come to New Castle to enjoy a big time in a small country town!
