Children's Literature Writer-in-Residence Lecture. David Almond has won the Carnegie Medal, Smarties Award, two Whitbread Awards, and the Hans Christian Andersen Award, given to an author whose complete works are judged to have made lasting contributions to children's literature. His first novel, "Skellig," won the Whitbread Children's Award and the Carnegie Medal. "The Fire-Eaters" won the Whitbread, the Smarties Gold Award, and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. "My Name is Mina" was shortlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize 2011. His newest book is "The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean."
