Instructor: Robert Schultz with guest artist Binh Danh (March 12 only)
Fee: $80 members, $100 non-members, $75 students + $15 supply fee
Limit 15 Students
During four three-hour sessions participants will be instructed in the techniques of making leafprints (developing photographic images in the flesh of leaves) and writing poetry in a variety of traditional forms. This word & image course runs concurrently with the museum's War Memoranda exhibition which features both leaf prints and poetry, and it is taught by artists who worked on the exhibition. On March 12, Binh Danh, inventor of the "chlorophyll print" process and professor of photography at Arizona State University, will serve as guest instructor. No prior writing or art experience is assumed. Participants will develop the drafting and revision techniques suitable for writing poems in the prescribed forms, beginning with basic stanzas in simple rhythms and rhyme patterns, and experimenting with repeating forms such as the pantoum, the ghazal, and thr triolet. Attention will be given to the interplay of poems and images suitable for the leafprint process. This is a "clean" workshop, unless your pen leaks.
