Music and art have lots in common! Artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Georgia O’Keefe and Romare Bearden enjoyed trying to capture music in their art; attempting to create the sounds and moods in color and brushstroke. We will be inspired by these artists as well as the examples of contemporary artists like Nick Cave, Simone Paterson and Wayne White. These contemporary artists combine sounds and movement with their visual art. Different styles of music will influence our creations while we experiment with a variety of art materials. We will also learn to create some of our own musical instruments such as shakers and drums; a drumming lesson will enhance the experience. Guest artist, Tom Teasley will join us for an exploration of world percussion!
