Preservation Hall Jazz Band joins with the celebrated pianist Allen Toussaint to bring a bit of New Orleans’ flair to the streets of Roanoke. Founded over fifty years ago, Preservation Hall is synonymous with the splash and dazzle of dixieland jazz. Even before the founding of the band, however, New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint started his musical career as a teen in the 1950s. He has entertained music-lovers around the world ever since as a studio musician, producer, composer, and performer. The winner of the Presidential Medal of Honor for the Arts, Toussaint has—in the words of President Obama—“devoted his musical talent to lifting up… the Big Easy.” Both Preservation Hall Jazz Band and pianist Allen Toussaint embody the highest ideals of a community united by music. Not only have they been instrumental in sharing the New Orleans sound with the world, but they have also worked to pass musical know-how to younger generations in New Orleans and beyond.
