Heather, I have to disagree. I am sory you feel stuck here and even more sorry your are fighting cancer – prayers and hopes that you will beat this horrible disease quickly – but you are wrong, Roanoke is a wonderful place to live. We have some of the best hiking in the country right in our back yard. We get nationally recognized acts at venues like the Civic Centers and Jefferson Center regularly. We have tons of restaurants and bars to choose from, there are wonderful festivals throughout the year, and most of our neighborhoods and school systems are perfect for raising a family with children. Yes Roanoke may not be Chicago, but those of us that choose to live here don’t want it to be (and we especially don’t want the ridiculously high crime rates that Chicago enjoys.) Please don’t hate our valley just because you’re used to a bigger city experience.
