Pet of the Month!

by Andrea Mattioni

The Roanoker’s Pet of the Month (POTM) will be an ongoing online feature. We hope to match up pets with great pet parents. While the first ones below do not directly come from the RVSPCA, every other POTM will.

Due to some office related issues (like allergies), we’re unable to keep our office cats Geb and Osiris that were adopted from the RVSPCA. These boys are well behaved and have done nothing wrong, but it would be certainly better if they were in a regular home with a family.

Geb & Osiris are very attached and adore each other like no two cats we’ve ever seen. When they nap its always together and often with their arms around each other. As much as they love each other, they are equally fond of their human friends. These are not kitties that are indifferent to humans. They actively seek attention and love to play with each other and non-feline friends. However, they do need to be the only cats in the household.

They are almost a year old and still have kitten energy but are old enough that they have some manners. They were exposed to FIP when a litter-mate died of it as a young kitty but have shown no signs of it themselves.

The boys come with a kitty starter kit: self-feeder that holds 3 lbs of food at a time, water dish, kitty bed, an enclosed litter box, cat nip, toys and a cube structure in which they love to play and hide. They will also receive a free grooming from one of our POTM sponsors,  Biscuits and Bubbles!

It is just heartbreaking that we can’t keep them. However, more than hating to see them go, it would be even more distressing to see them separated. When adopting these cats together, one just needs to think that they are getting two great felines that will keep each other company so there’s no guilt when leaving them to go to work.

How come the cats will not go back to the SPCA where they were adopted from?

We did not want to return the cats to the SPCA and take up the space that two other homeless cats could have. We’re committed to finding them a new, perfect (for them) home.
