The Hollins Playwright’s Lab is partnering with The Tesseract Theatre Company of St. Louis, MO, to bring Taylor Gruenloh’ s production of My Alexandria to Hollins. My Alexandria sees two actors portray over 30 characters in an examination of the lives of African American soldiers that were sent to fight for France in WWI. Courage, pride, jazz, and the search for an identity are explored in this fast paced piece. They carried a New York National Guard flag, wore U.S. Army uniforms, and marched with the French brigade. The enemy called them “Hellfighters.” Admission is free, but all are encouraged to make a contribution to the New Works Initiative to help offset costs. Sponsored by the Summer 2015 Playwright’s Lab at Hollins. June 26-27, 8 pm.
