Coontz introduces Hollins' 2013-14 Distinguished Speakers Series, the theme of which is "Feminist Legacies, Feminist Futures," in observation of the 50th anniversary of Betty Friedan's ground-breaking book, "The Feminine Mystique." Coontz wrote "A Strange Stirring: The Feminine Mystique and American Women at the Dawn of the 1960s." She teaches history and family studies at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and is director of research and public education for the Council on Contemporary Families. Other books include "Marriage, A History;" "The Way We Never Were: American Families and the Nostalgia Trap;" and "The Way We Really Are: Coming to Terms with America's Changing Families."
