A native of Philippi, West Virginia, Mike Smith M.A. '97 is assistant professor of poetry at Delta State University and is the editor of "Tapestry," a literary journal focusing on the Mississippi Delta. He holds degrees from Hollins, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and the University of Notre Dame. His poetry collections include "Byron in Baghdad," "Multiverse," and "How to Make a Mummy," and his poems have appeared in over forty journals, including "Carolina Quarterly," "The Iowa Review," "The North American Review," "Salt," "Free Verse," "Hotel Amerika," and "The Notre Dame Review." His latest book is a translation of Goethe’s "Faust: A Tragedy," published by Shearsman Books. Funding for this event is provided by the Dee Hull Everist Visiting Speaker Series.
