Theatre Production: "Distracted"
Hollins University 7916 Williamson Road , Roanoke, Virginia 24019
DISTRACTED by Lisa Loomer. This hilarious, provocative, and poignant look at a modern family poses an epidemic dilemma: Are we so tuned into our 24/7 info-rich world that we've tuned out what really matters?
What's wrong with nine-year-old Jesse? He can't sit still, he curses, he raps, and you can't get him into—or out of—pajamas. His teacher thinks it's Attention Deficit Disorder. Dad says, "He's just a boy!" And Mama's on a quest for answers. Is Jesse dysfunctional, or just different? Don't we all have ADD, to some degree? Distracted presents a view into the wildly distracting world we live in, and the complex navigation system required to survive it. It’s about all of us, as two parents attempt to make choices that carry them to the core of their own humanity. As it travels through a world of ADHD, Distracted captures the flavor, style and spirit of the highly theatrical Broadway sensation A Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night Time, which brilliantly takes audiences on a journey into the mind of autism. Admission: $10 general, one free ticket to current Hollins students, faculty and staff. Box office: (540) 362-6517. www.hollins.edu/theatre.
