Distinguished Scholars Series: Dopamine Neuron Regulation and its Disruption in Schizophrenia and Depression
to
Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute 2 Riverside Circle, Roanoke, Virginia 24016
The brain's dopamine system has been implicated in a number of psychiatric disorders ranging from schizophrenia to depression; however, the nature of the disruptions leading to such diverse conditions is unknown. By studying the mode of regulation of the patterns of activity in dopamine neurons and how they are altered in rodent models of human disorders, Dr. Grace has shown that alterations in the regulation of dopamine neuron activity, rather than the dopamine neurons themselves, can potentially explain the pathophysiology of these disorders and provide insight into novel means of treatment.
A public reception will precede this event in the VTC Cafe at 5 p.m.
