May They Live Forever: Ancient Egyptian Mummies – Dr. Salima Ikram
Monday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m., Colket Center Wortmann Ballroom
Ancient Egyptian mummies have been regarded as immortals, as a source of medicine, terrifying monsters and objects of curiosity. Now they are regarded as an invaluable source of information for funeral beliefs, technology, ancient diet, and the health of the ancient Egyptians. Dr. Salima Ikram, a professor, archaeologist and author, will discuss the history of human and animal mummies from their inception into their most recent incarnations in Egypt and how mummies help scholars reconstruct Egyptian culture, economy and history.
Her visit is sponsored by the Jordan Foundation for the Humanities and the Department of Fine Arts/Art History program.
