Mountain Valley Cluster AKC/NADD Dock Diving
to
Salem Civic Center 1001 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, Virginia 24153
The Roanoke Kennel Club, the oldest American Kennel Club affiliate in Virginia, is proud to co-host the 20th Annual Mountain Valley Cluster Dog Show, Wednesday, August 3 – Sunday, August 7, 2016.
These five (5) days of shows at the Salem Civic Center feature approximately 150 different AKC recognized dog breeds each day. This year, we are anticipating over 5,200 total event entries for the 5-day show. The competition begins each morning at 8:00am, with eight (8) rings of Breed competition throughout the day, followed by the Group competitions, then Best in Show.
This year, we have an exciting new addition to the show … Dock Diving. This family sport has its origins with hunting/gun dogs leaping into icy water to retrieve ducks and geese. These events, sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, will be conducted by North America Diving Dogs (NADD). Both competitive, as well as “My dog can do that!” events will be offered. The public is welcome to bring their dogs to try out “dock diving”. Any breed, any mix, and any size dog may participate.
If a “team” (dog and handler) is currently a competitive pair, or are ready for their first competition, they can register for their “splashes” by going to the NADD webpage … www.northamericadivingdogs.com
We are very proud to announce that the Mountain Valley Cluster Dog Show event have been selected by the AKC and NADD as one of three qualifying locations in the Southeast for the 2016 AKC/NADD Eukanuba National Championships to be conducted December 17, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.
The “diving pool” will be open Wednesday thru Saturday, 9:00am – 4:00pm, and Sunday, 9:00am – 1:00pm.
Bring the dog and the family … It’s a pool full of fun!
Spectators are welcome. Admission and car parking are FREE. Vendors will be available offering a vast array of dog related merchandise and supplies. Only dogs registered to compete, dogs attending a health clinic or “Service Dogs” are allowed in the Civic Center. No dogs are sold at the show.
