to
South County Library 6303 Merriman Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24018
Roanoke County will kick off a festive holiday season with the illumination of Roanoke County’s beautifully decorated 30 foot Christmas Tree on Monday, December 5, 2016, from 6 pm to
8 pm, at South County Library located at 6303 Merriman Road.
This FREE, family-focused evening will begin with an official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 pm. Complete with Christmas Carols performed by the Penn Forest Elementary School “After School for Kids” (ASK) program.
This year’s theme, “Winter Wonderland” will feature entertainment, crafts, and performances that transport you to the North Pole. The Nutcracker and The Snow Queen, characters from the ballet The Nutcracker will be on hand to meet and greet guests. The Southwest Virginia Ballet will perform select dances from the popular ballet and Bows & Strings Violin Studio will provide some of your favorite holiday music in the Auditorium. Children can create winter crafts and decorations such as Snow Owl Ornaments, Penguin Puppets and Hot Chocolate Friends, to name a few. Also back by popular demand is an American favorite, marshmallow roasting, which will add to the light holiday refreshments being served during the evening. The most important event, of course, will be a personal visit with Santa! Santa will feel right at home in our Winter Wonderland, visiting with children to discuss their special Christmas wishes. Children will also have a photo opportunity in Santa’s sleigh! Don’t forget the camera to capture all the wonderful smiling faces and Christmas cheer created during the evening.
