JENNIFER CROOK, 33 / Attorney, OPN Law, PLC
Jennifer Crook is a graduate of Virginia Tech and the Washington and Lee School of Law, serves as lead counsel for criminal, civil and administrative trials in state and federal court and is a Guardian ad Litem for incapacitated adults. As an adjunct professor at the Washington and Lee School of Law, she is facilitating a program for a medical legal partnership that provide a unique service to the community for cancer patients. When not in the courtroom, she serves as secretary for the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley and is a board member for the West End Center for Youth, where she is also the race director for the annual Spooky Spring. She developed the idea for the “Love Where You Live” Trifecta Race Series, featuring three 5K races that benefit local nonprofits. Crook loves the various programs and events in our region, believing it enriches the area by making it a more welcoming place. “I enjoy being a part of a community that prioritizes a healthy work-life balance and rewards spending time outdoors including on our great greenways and blueways,” she says.

From the Nomination: “Since moving to Roanoke in 2014, Jennifer has been extremely involved in the community. … She is distinguished by both her accomplishments in the legal profession and her involvement in the community. Despite her busy schedule as an attorney, Jennifer makes the time to serve on local boards and volunteer at many community events. She is always willing to help out with community events and to assist with even the smallest tasks for the nonprofits that she volunteers for. Her idea for the Love Where you Live Trifecta Race Series is an example of her how she uses her intelligence and creative to benefit local area nonprofits. … In addition to her professional and volunteer involvement in the community, Jennifer is also training to be part of a relay team competing in the Ironman 70.3. She will compete in the bicycle portion of the relay.”
How does your passion impact our community?
Crook: “I have called Roanoke home for more than five years now, and during that time I have had the honor of serving on numerous local boards and organizations. I believe my dedication to the mission and purpose of the organizations I represent has impacted our community by spearheading community involvement, increasing participation in local events and raising money for nonprofits. One of the initiatives I am most proud of is the establishment of the Love Where You Live - Trifecta Non-Profit 5K Race Series. Participants who completed the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k, Light Up the Night 5K and the Spooky Sprint 5k were eligible for a special medal honoring the achievement. The inaugural Trifecta medal was presented by RunAbout Sports to more than 40 participants at Spooky Sprint in 2019. We are so excited to bring this series back to Roanoke in 2020!”
