A 49-minute “weather delay” plagued the Salem Red Sox Tuesday evening as they lost by a score of 3-0 in a short six-inning bout against Wilmington in game two of the series.
To say Salem had a case of the Mondays would be respectfully cliché but, with their recent on-again-off-again play, tonight was one of those off nights as they fell to Potomac 5-2.
Since joining the team on June 6, the Australian native has found his niche here in the Roanoke Valley with Salem, where he claims is very similar to his home back in Adelaide, Australia.
An afternoon that began with police officers and firemen battling it out on the diamond ended with the Sox battling not just the Potomac Nationals but also the umpires yet came up short, 6-4.
The evening ended in extra innings, though, after both teams mirrored each other on the scoreboard until they reached the 16th inning when the Keys snuck a run in on the Sox and came away victorious 3-2.
