Teriyaki Grill House has been in their Electric Road location for almost three years. Mei Chen, owner, says she's finally beginning to see her hard work pay off.
"I went door to door handing out menus when I first started. Hospitals, offices, I gave out a lot of those myself when I started," Chen says. "Things are better this year!"
Teriyaki Grill's impressive renovation began in early February and is now completed. The result is a sleek decor that's both inviting and comfortable.
Chen's food is not only healthy, but packs a flavorful punch. Low-fat, high protein meals that do not contain MSG have encouraged patrons to return time and time again (we saw several customers come in after their Gold's Gym workouts). The food she prepares for her family is the same type of meal she makes for her customers.
Perhaps the most impressive part was that despite our large lunch order (complete with a box of leftovers) didn't leave us feeling like we needed a nap. It was light and healthy, but still filling.
Food is made to order and hot off the hibachi grill. Our hibachi entrees (chicken with broccoli and shrimp with zucchini) were delicious, light on sauce but big in flavor. I'm particular about white rice, too, but Chen's recipe is perfect - steamed rice that isn't too sticky or heavy. Egg rolls and spring rolls came out piping hot, with fresh carrot strips and cabbage wrapped up inside. The hot and sour soup was like a comforting broth, with tofu, mushrooms, and scallions. Steamed dumplings were also a hit at the table. By the time we made our way out the door, the lunch crowd had filled in over half the restaurant, proving Chen's statement that things are certainly looking up.
"I've traveled all around the country and love Chinese food. I've been to hundreds of Chinese restaurants and Teriyaki Grill House is definitely one of my favorites. What I love about this place is it's healthy and delicious," says Steve Beyer, frequent customer.
