Salem Red Sox
A crisp summer night set the stage for Friday nights game-two against the Winston-Salem Dash. The Red Sox turned it on late, heavily and suddenly to snatch the lead and the win away from the Dash; prevailing 10-4.
A New Mexico native and natural athlete – now a professional baseball player - Blake Swihart is a guy who brings a definite value to the baseball diamond that the Red Sox organization just couldn’t pass up on.
A rare 11 a.m. start between the Salem Sox and Wilmington Blue Rocks developed into a pleasurable lunchtime outing for the 1,846 fans in attendance.
A 49-minute “weather delay” plagued the Salem Red Sox Tuesday evening as they lost by a score of 3-0 in a short six-inning bout against Wilmington in game two of the series.
Now 3-1 in the month of August, Salem is still well in post-season contingency as they continue to spar for the final remaining spot
To say Salem had a case of the Mondays would be respectfully cliché but, with their recent on-again-off-again play, tonight was one of those off nights as they fell to Potomac 5-2.
Since joining the team on June 6, the Australian native has found his niche here in the Roanoke Valley with Salem, where he claims is very similar to his home back in Adelaide, Australia.
An afternoon that began with police officers and firemen battling it out on the diamond ended with the Sox battling not just the Potomac Nationals but also the umpires yet came up short, 6-4.
The evening ended in extra innings, though, after both teams mirrored each other on the scoreboard until they reached the 16th inning when the Keys snuck a run in on the Sox and came away victorious 3-2.
If you can appreciate a nice, smoked chicken wing (like most of us Americans), then you should’ve undoubtedly been inside of Salem Memorial Ballpark on Thursday evening!
