Bubblecake
Bubblecake
Bubblecake's rich and varied product line.
If the staggering amount of cupcakes sold thus far is any indication, Bubblecake may have broken the curse of the old White House building on Crystal Spring Avenue in South Roanoke. Demand was high for the gourmet cupcakes from the minute the doors opened last July fourth.
“We tried to have a soft opening,” says Lisa Lusk who owns Bubblecake with husband Rob. “We sold out two hours after we opened.”
In response, the staff has been expanded to eight, including a full-time baker and finisher. With a larger staff they bake and ice cupcakes seven days a week.
Each day about a dozen varieties are offered, ranging from the Crème Brulee – vanilla bean with a crisp caramel shell – to the Cinnamon Roll, cinnamon cake with cream cheese icing and cinnamon caramel.
The cupcakes roll out the door in the hands of neighborhood kids, adults satisfying a sweet tooth fix and business folk taking a surprise for work events and meetings.
Apparently a lot of Roanokers have been wowed by Bubblecake’s products. As we go to press Lusk planned to open a second location in mid-November, on Kirk Avenue.
“Downtown people have been calling to ask for delivery,” says Lusk. “They’ll be able to get that soon.”
