From the Nomination: “When it comes to golf instruction in the Roanoke Valley, particularly with kids, Peter Weisel stands out as the best. He is so dedicated to helping his students find joy on the course no matter the age. Above all, he serves as a wonderful ambassador for Roanoke in golf - he organizes tournaments all over the state and teaches private lessons in Richmond - and is constantly advocating for the region he calls home. He has given lessons free of charge before to help someone ahead of a tournament or trip. He becomes so invested in his students' success that he has cried with them as they've shot their goal score. It's easy to put into words how much Weisel loves teaching and spreading the joy of golf, but he has numbers to back up his success as well: while at Hunting Hills, he has grown junior golf participation 250% since 2017, has generated 3,000 unique visits to the club and has expanded program offerings for juniors, resulting in five new club memberships. He has filmed a number of drills and instructional videos that are available on his website. Peter operates as a business of one, and runs his own social media, marketing, content creation and writes his own articles.”
