As Dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, I am privileged to help educate the next generation of physicians while strengthening the health and vitality of our region. Our medical school was founded through a unique partnership between Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic to address healthcare needs in Southwest Virginia and beyond. Today, we are preparing future physician leaders, expanding opportunities for medical education, and contributing to a healthier future for the communities we serve.
Our mission is deeply connected to the communities of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Students learn in a collaborative environment that combines world-class medical education, research, innovation, and patient-centered care. We are committed to developing physicians who not only excel clinically but also understand the importance of serving their communities.
We offer an intimate, highly personalized medical education experience supported by Virginia Tech’s strengths in science, engineering, and innovation and Carilion Clinic’s nationally recognized healthcare system. Our growing student body reflects increasing demand for this distinctive approach to physician training.
Our greatest measure of success is the impact our graduates make. The Smith Family Foundation’s recent $20 million scholarship endowment gift for in-state students reflects confidence in our mission and represents an investment in the future of Roanoke, Virginia’s healthcare workforce, and generations of physicians who will care for communities across the Commonwealth.
