Virginia Roll Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 6 cups flour
  • 6 tablespoons melted shortening

Instructions

  1. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Baking time 20-25 min. Combine beaten eggs, sugar, salt, yeast, milk and water, mix well; add 3 cups flours, mixing until smooth. Add melted shortening, then remaining flour. Knead well and place in greased pan. Cover and set in warm place to rise, until doubled in size. Punch dough down, roll out and cut with biscuit cutter; place on baking sheet, cover and let rise again. When risen, bake in preheated oven.

“This recipe was given to me by my Aunt Hattie, whose middle name is Virginia. She was one of my mother’s older sisters, and that’s where part of my name came from. She had this recipe using lard, as it was an old recipe, she and I changed a few things to make this one, back in the 1950s.”
