Grammy-Winning Steep Canyon Rangers and Regional Favorites Phat Laces Headline Weekend at The Dog Bowl

The 5 Points Music Foundation and Black Dog Salvage invite music lovers to a full weekend of live music at The Dog Bowl at Black Dog Salvage, featuring two distinctly different performances in one of the region’s most unique outdoor concert venues.

The weekend begins Saturday, July 11, with Grammy Award-winning bluegrass group Steep Canyon Rangers, joined by special guest, rising Boones Mill songwriter, Colby T. Helms. Known for their exceptional musicianship, thoughtful songwriting, and energetic live performances, Steep Canyon Rangers have earned national acclaim while continuing to push the boundaries of modern bluegrass.

The weekend continues Sunday, July 12, with the Legendary Brunch & Benefit series featuring Roanoke favorites Phat Laces and Talking Cake, benefiting the Roanoke Speech & Hearing Center. The family-friendly event offers another opportunity to enjoy live music while supporting a community non-profit organization.

“One of the things we love most about The Dog Bowl is the variety of music we can bring to the stage,” said Tyler Godsey of the 5 Points Music Foundation. “From nationally touring artists like Steep Canyon Rangers to hometown favorites like Phat Laces, every weekend offers a unique experience while bringing people together and supporting our local community.”

Located between the Roanoke River Greenway and Black Dog Salvage, The Dog Bowl has become a destination for outdoor concerts, offering an all-ages festival atmosphere with plenty of room to spread out, relax, and enjoy live music under the summer sky.

“We’ve watched The Dog Bowl grow into a place where people come together to enjoy great music and great company,” said Mike Whiteside, co-founder of Black Dog Salvage. “It’s rewarding to see the venue continue to attract incredible artists while creating memorable experiences for our community.”

Since assuming management of the venue, the 5 Points Music Foundation has worked alongside Black Dog Salvage to grow The Dog Bowl into one of Southwest Virginia’s premier outdoor music destinations. Together, the organizations have expanded the concert series, welcomed nationally touring artists, invested in ongoing venue improvements, and created a one-of-a-kind gathering place where live music, community, and charitable giving come together.
