Botetourt County Celebrates Courthouse Construction Milestone with Topping Off Ceremony

Botetourt County and Jamerson-Lewis Construction invite members of the media and public to attend a ceremonial “Topping Off” celebration marking a major milestone in the construction of the new Botetourt County Circuit Courthouse.

What: Botetourt County Circuit Courthouse Topping Off Ceremony
When: Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Courthouse Construction Site, Main Street, Fincastle, Virginia

The Topping Off ceremony is a longstanding construction tradition that celebrates the placement of a building’s highest structural elements and recognizes the skilled craftsmen, engineers, architects, and construction professionals whose work has brought the project to this stage.

The June 26 ceremony will feature remarks from County officials, project leaders, and representatives from Jamerson-Lewis Construction and Architectural Partners,  followed by the placement of the cupola atop the courthouse.

“This project is about honoring our past while preparing for our future,” said Botetourt County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dr. Mac Scothorn. “The Courthouse has always been the heart of County government and an important landmark in Historic Fincastle. This new facility ensures we can continue serving citizens for generations to come while preserving the character and history that make the County unique.”

About the Project

The approximately $37 million courthouseproject will provide a modern, secure, and accessible judicial facility while preserving the architectural heritage of Botetourt County’s historic seat of government. The project is being constructed by Jamerson-Lewis Construction and is anticipated to open to the public late next year.

The courthouse construction is part of a larger multi-phase investment in historic Fincastle. Future phases will include the creation of a new community green space between the courthouse and Historic Jail for public gatherings and events, a Monument Park featuring several prominent monuments, and a historically inspired reconstruction of the Law Office and Hotel.

The courthouse project also includes improved public access and expanded parking designed to strengthen the vitality of historic downtown Fincastle.

Construction began in early 2025 and is expected to be completed by Fall 2027.

Together, these improvements will enhance public access and preserve Botetourt County’s historic character for generations to come.

History of the Courthouse

The current project replaces the 1975 facility, which could no longer meet modern accessibility, security, and operational standards. While designed to serve the needs of a growing county, the new courthouse will preserve many of the architectural influences residents have long associated with Fincastle, including its red brick exterior, white-columned portico, green metal roof, and iconic clock tower.
