Jaclyn Nunziato, MS, MD 38 / Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology Carilion Clinic Virginia Tech School of Medicine / Executive Director and Founder of Huddle Up Moms
Dr. Jaclyn Nunziato earned a Bachelor of Science with a minor in History and concentration in Women’s Studies from Villanova University in 2004, her Masters of Science in Molecular Biology from Farleigh Dickinson University in 2007 and completed her medical degree at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. Her multiple awards include the Apple Award for Excellence from Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in 2018-19. She also creates educational resources (newsletters, blogs, panels) on women’s health issues and is the founder of Huddle Up Moms, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women. “My role … has afforded me the opportunity to work with so many wonderful leaders in the community who share the same passion of providing quality care and support to the women of Roanoke,” she says. “It takes a village to raise a family and I want to empower women with the tools and access to resources they need to thrive in their life, marriage, motherhood, relationships and within the community.”

From the Nominations: “Jaclyn Nunziato has only been living in Roanoke a short time and … has managed to not only create a not-for-profit, Huddle Up Moms, to empower and educate women, but has also reached out to several of the other not-for-profit organizations with similar interest and has managed to coordinate several not-for-profit events to support the women of Roanoke and beyond. She has filled a huge void in our community, care for women after they deliver or what she terms, ‘the fourth trimester.’ Nunziato has received national attention for her efforts and has been asked to serve on the Virginia Perinatal Neonatal Council and speak on the fourth trimester. … Nunziato is a very unique individual who some how finds time to work a full-time job as an obstetrician and gynecologist helping women with their health care needs on a daily basis and still manages to find time to teach medical students, supervise residents, do meaningful research, publish, and author a book chapter. … She is somehow able to create and maintain meaningful relationships with her patients and members through daily communications and a very tightly knit network of women that consistently participate in-group activities and support the cause. As if this were not enough, she is a loving wife and a mother of two young girls that also demand a great deal of her time. She is an amazing individual.”
What do you love about Roanoke?
Nunziato: “What I love most about Roanoke is its sense of community. The ‘Star City’ has a passion for promoting local resources and optimizing all that it has to offer to its residents. From the gorgeous mountain trails, to the greenway, festivals and holiday celebrations, Roanoke makes everyone in the community feel a sense of pride to be a part of this great city.”
How does your passion impact our community?
Nunziato: “It has been such an honor and a privilege to take care of the women in our community, not only as an OBGYN, but as a strong advocate for educating women through our nonprofit.”
