Salem Sox Insider: Away Game Recap & What’s Next for Salem

Spectator

With the All-Star break in the rear view, the Salem Sox (37-40) have been back on the diamond all week…just not in Salem.

Playing three games against Wilmington last weekend (June 21-23) and four games against Winston-Salem this week (June 24-27), I can only imagine that the Sox are ready to get back into their own clubhouse this Friday night (June 28), to say the least.

After all, they are currently in the top spot of the Carolina League’s Southern Division!

The Sox came out of the gates with a purpose, winning the weekend series over Wilmington, two games to one; the team seemed to pick up right where they left off before the All-Star break…swinging the bats and winning ballgames.

Tallying a total of nine runs on Friday night and winning 9-2, seven total runs on Saturday night, losing 7-11, and four runs on Sunday, winning 4-3, the team has seemingly found their niche within the pinstripes and plan to defend the top spot this weekend, kicking off their first home series of this seasons second half.

Prior to losing first basemen Garin Cucchini to a Double-A promotion, Deven Marrero, Henry Ramos and Keury De La Cruz have all picked up the slack and made tremendous efforts in leading Salem to victory on the road.

With a 4-2 record since the break and a current win streak of two, the Sox plan to bring the momentum back into Salem on Friday as they face off with the Carolina Mudcats, who currently sit at the bottom of the division.

Outstanding pitching has been the key for Salem. As a number of Sox pitchers have been throwing very well, it has resulted in the hitters rallying behind them and putting runs on the scoreboard, consistently, making Salem a tough team to beat.

For the fans, expect a weekend full of nothing but pure entertainment inside the ballpark. Signed poster giveaways, bands, dogs and fireworks will all be apart of the atmosphere this weekend as the Sox look to continue their winning ways for the hometown crowd.

With the Sox on a roll and a slate full of fun for the fans, you don’t want to miss out on what’s in store for the weekend at Salem Memorial Stadium.

Game times: Friday-7:05 PM, Saturday-6:04 PM and Sunday 4:05 PM.
