Every gardener knows that sometimes growth requires a little more room to bloom.
After serving the Roanoke Valley for more than 45 years and spending over a quarter of a century on Franklin Road, George’s Flowers is preparing to plant new roots in a new home. The beloved family-owned florist, recently recognized as Best Florist by both The Roanoker Magazine and The Roanoke Times, has announced plans to relocate to the former Audiotronics building on Ogden Road, where renovations are already underway. The company expects to welcome customers to the new location in late fall 2026.
While the move marks the end of an era on Franklin Road, it also represents an opportunity to create something entirely new for customers, flower enthusiasts, and the community.
The new 8,000-square-foot facility is being designed to be much more than a traditional flower shop. Plans include a beautiful and expanded flower market featuring a 900-square-foot floral cooler—the largest retail floral cooler in Southwest Virginia outside of wholesale operations—along with state-of-the-art floral design stations for George’s Flowers’ team of seven professional designers.
Visitors will be able to explore a larger selection of fresh flowers, discover expert guidance on flower care and utilization, and experience a destination dedicated to the beauty and artistry of flowers.
Renovations are being guided by Charlottesville-based The Gaines Group, whose work on the George’s Flowers project represents the firm’s first project in the Roanoke area. Known for creating spaces that balance beauty, functionality, and community connection, The Gaines Group was selected to help bring George’s vision for the new location to life.
“We wanted a partner who understood that this wasn’t simply about renovating a building,” said George Clements, founder and owner of George’s Flowers. “We wanted someone who understood our vision for creating a destination where people can experience flowers, learn about them, and be inspired by them. The Gaines Group immediately understood what we were trying to accomplish.”
For Clements, the move is both deeply personal and incredibly exciting.
“For over a quarter of a century, our Franklin Road location has been home to our team and our customers,” said Clements. “We’ve shared in weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, celebrations, and life’s most meaningful moments. While we’ll always treasure those memories, this move gives us the opportunity to create something we’ve dreamed about for years.”

Doug Lindamood, Vice-President of George’s Flowers, said one of the most exciting aspects of the new location is the opportunity to share the company’s expertise with the community.

Our new flower market will provide expert information on flower care, design ideas, and creative ways to bring flowers into everyday life.”
The expanded facility will also allow George’s Flowers to introduce educational workshops and seminars for the public, covering topics ranging from bow making and vase arrangement techniques to seasonal decorating and tips for extending the life of fresh flowers.
“We want people to feel inspired when they walk through our doors,” Lindamood added. “Whether someone is purchasing flowers for a special occasion or simply wants to learn something new, we hope this space becomes a place where creativity and community can flourish.”
The relocation follows the previously announced acquisition of the Franklin Road property as part of the City of Roanoke’s flood mitigation efforts. While the circumstances created the need for a move, George’s Flowers has embraced the opportunity to re-imagine its future and invest in a facility designed to serve customers for generations to come.
The adaptive reuse of the former Audiotronics building preserves a familiar Roanoke landmark while giving it a new purpose, continuing a tradition of local businesses serving generations of Roanoke families.
As renovations continue, customers can follow the journey through George’s Flowers’ “Moving & Blooming” campaign, which will offer behind-the-scenes updates, construction progress, historical reflections, and previews of the new space leading up to the grand opening.
