The Wanna Be Chef: Festive Fruit Dish

July 4 Dessert

July Fourth will most likely be a low-key celebration for us this year, but I want to make a festive treat for my family, especially the littlest member of our clan. Since our food blogger Big Bear’s Wife is on vacation this week, I checked out her recipes and found a yummy looking strawberry/blueberry trifle that I decided to try.

Since I’m not having a party, I don’t need to make a big dessert. As I looked for bowls to use for miniature, individual-serving versions of Angie’s trifle, I stumbled across some small Mason jars. Perfect!

The trifle calls for layers of angel food cake, berries and whipped topping. I’m not a huge angel food fan, so I opted to experiment with lemon pound cake. The results were delicious!

Have a Happy Fourth of July!
