Pet’s Name: Chester

Owners: Frances Floyd, Roanoke City

Breed: Domestic medium hair cat

Age: 10 years

Gender: Male

Your Pet’s Story: I adopted Chester as an adult when was 2 years old from the ASCPA, he had been there a while and was getting ready to be transferred again. He was being passed due to be being an adult black cat. I originally did go to pick out a kitten but I sat down and was rubbing all of the cats and Chester trodded over and laid by me. He chose me! And the rest is history! He has since had some health issues – seizure, kidney disease and now totally blind. But he is the most lovable cat in the world and I would love to have a 100 like him and would choose him again.

Favorite Treat: Temptations salmon rounds

Pet’s Name: Hershey

Owner: Connie Wright Stanley, Roanoke City

Breed: Standard Poodle

Age: 9 now deceased

Gender: Male

Gets his/her shots and pet care at: Dr. Finkler at Roanoke Animal

Your Pet’s Story: We adopted Hershey at 7. He had lived his life in a kennel with a ten foot run. He didn’t know how to lead or even how to play. At first he was afraid of everything. Over time and with lots of patience and love he learned to trust us. We taught him to shake hands. It became his way of communicating with us. He would raise his paw and stare at us with those big brown sad eyes until we figured out what he wanted. What he wanted and loved most was for us to wrap our arms around him as hug him as tight possible. He loved his body hugs! So did we. We were so close. He could read our minds and us his. We were heart broken when we learned he had lymphoma. We made his last days a celebration of all he loved. He died in our arms as we both sobbed.

Favorite Place to Play: Race as fast as possible round and round our Windy Gap Mountain house.

Favorite Treat: Mini Milk bones. Tiny Treats for a BIG Dog.

Favorite Toy: Gonuts the only thing he couldn’t destroy.

Best Trick: Raising his Paw and staring at you to communicate what he wanted.

Best Advice for Pet Owners: Treasure every moment.

Pet’s Name: Chesney Dean Pedigo

Owner: Wanda Pedigo, Vinton

Breed: Shih Tzu

Age: 1 year

Gender: Male

Gets his/her shots and pet care at: Vinton Vet

Your Pet’s Story: Chesney was found on line from a breeder in Wirtz. He came into my life after having to put down another Shih Tzu 2 months earlier. He loves to play fetch and sit in my lap. He gets treats for pretty much everything he does and loves the doggy ice cream in peanut butter flavor. Chesney is very socialable and loves everyone. He is very vocal and when you tell him SHHHH he barks even louder. At night when its bedtime I can tell him to go get horsey (one of his favorite toys) and he gets it and runs to bed with it in his mouth ready to go to sleep. This little guy is spoiled and I love him to pieces!

Favorite Place to Play: Anywhere! He loves to play anywhere he is.

Favorite Treat: Busy Bones

Favorite Toy: Actually has a whole house full but very favorite is “horsey”

Best Trick: His “daddy” will tell him to stretch and he’ll lay on his back and Eric will rub his belly and he stretches his arms and legs out enjoying his massage. Not really a trick but he’s cute when he does it. LOL

Best Advice for Pet Owners: Every furbaby is different with different personalities. Be patient with them, especially when they’re puppies because they need time to learn and show them love. You picked them out and they only have you. You are their everything!
