New Year’s Celebrations in Roanoke

New Year’s Eve is always a popular time to celebrate, whether you’re headed out on the town or prefer to stay in and watch the ball drop on television. This year, Roanoke residents gave us a few suggestions on how to ring in 2013.

Downtown Roanoke New Year’s Eve Gala

Featuring music by The Kings with Project 4 and special guest Josh Shilling, a prime rib buffet, dancing, party favors and champagne at midnight. Black-tie optional. Sponsored by Preceptor Omicron; proceeds benefit local charities. 7 p.m. $87.50 per person or $175 per couple. Hotel Roanoke. 342-5089.

Vinton New Year’s Eve Gala

Featuring a DJ, hors d’oeuvres, casino tables, and champagne toast. Bring your own beverages, mixers will be provided. Black tie optional. 8p.m. $100 per couple. Vinton War Memorial. 343-1364

New Year’s Eve Masquerade Gala

Featuring DJ Tipton, light hors d’ouevres, and cash bar. Sponsored by Roanoke Pride. 9 p.m. $15 per person. Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center. www.roanokepride.org

Swingin’ In the New Year Dance

Dance into the new year with swing, Latin and disco dancing. No partner necessary. 8:30 p.m. General public, $10 or $7 if you bring a snack to share; students, $5 or $2 if you bring a snack to share. Woodland Place, 935 Niagara Road, Vinton. www.swingroanoke.org.

New Year’s Eve in the Tasting Room

Ring in the New Year with wine, festive wine cocktails, and Hors d’oeuvre pairings.  Reservations and pre-payment required.  3 p.m.–7 p.m.  $25 per person. Chateau Morrisette in Floyd, VA. 593-2865

“School’s Out!” Public Ice Skating
